Queridos lectores:
Allá por el siglo XV, cuando todavía brillaba en Sefarad, España, una vibrante y numerosa comunidad judía, el poeta Jorge Manrique escribió las Coplas a la muerte de su padre. Su elegía enuncia un sentimiento universal sobre la finitud de la vida. Desde hace milenios, en Iamim Noraim, los judíos expresamos ideas similares. ¿Habrá oído Manrique a sus vecinos rezar el Unetane Tokef? Quizás fueron esas tfilot las que inspiraron los versos con que comienza su obra:
“Recuerde el alma dormida,
avive el seso y despierte
contemplando
cómo se pasa la vida,
cómo se viene la muerte…”
Desde el mes de Elul, nuestra tradición nos invita a “recordar con el alma”. El estremecedor sonido del Shofar “aviva el seso y despierta” al tiempo que nos empuja a contemplar nuestra vida individual, pero también la de nuestra sociedad, la del mundo que nos rodea, para que actuemos y lo mejoremos.
Si los primeros versos de esta copla nos remiten a Iamim Noraim, los últimos nos invitan a disentir con el poeta. Precisamente porque no pensamos que “…todo tiempo pasado fue mejor”, la sección principal del Anuario este año trata acerca de un significativo y largamente esperado cambio en el mundo: la situación de la mujer en la sociedad, con notas sobre quienes hicieron historia en nuestro pueblo y artículos que analizan con una mirada contemporánea su rol en nuestra religión. Como siempre, lo abordamos desde el judaísmo Masortí.
En Amijai la vida comunitaria nos sigue sorprendiendo, despertando en cada uno de nosotros una profunda admiración. A un año y medio de aquel momento de incertidumbre que trajo el inicio de la pandemia, nuestra Comunidad no solo se acomodó a la nueva normalidad, sino que no deja de levantar la vara en cada servicio religioso, en cada acción de tzedaka y en cada uno de los eventos, actividades y celebraciones que realiza. Los invito a que lean, en la sección Vida Comunitaria, acerca de lo hecho y de lo que se sigue proyectando y planificando, para dar contención, acompañamiento a muchos, educación y, más que nada, para celebrar la vida en Comunidad.
Bajo el liderazgo espiritual de nuestro Rab Ale Avruj, es un orgullo poder compartir estos Iamim Noraim de manera abierta y libre para todos, con altísima calidad técnica y humana, llegando a cada rincón del planeta. Sabemos de familias que por primera vez en muchos años comparten la liturgia de las Altas Fiestas con los suyos, a miles de kilómetros de distancia. Esto es posible gracias al compromiso de tanta gente que se sumó a la Campaña Minian, una propuesta basada en la convicción de que todos somos necesarios y de que cada uno cuenta. También sobre esto podrán leer en nuestro Anuario.
Para esta edición, contamos una vez más con colaboradores de lujo ya infaltables, como el Dr. Marcos Aguinis, Galit Ronen, embajadora del Estado de Israel en la Argentina; y la escritora Paula Margules, entre muchos otros. A todos ellos, nuestro enorme agradecimiento.
Quiera D´s que en este nuevo aniversario de la Creación del Hombre y de la Mujer, el sonido del Shofar pueda despertar nuevamente nuestras almas, para que evaluemos nuestras acciones, con sincera Teshuvá. Que podamos “avivar el seso”, usar nuestra razón para realizar un significativo balance del alma. Que podamos ver, sin embargo, que todo tiempo pasado no fue mejor y que está en nosotros, en lo personal y en lo comunitario, hacer del pedacito de realidad que nos toca un mundo más justo y hermoso.

Back in the 15th century, when there was still a vibrant and large Jewish community in Sefarad, Spain, poet Jorge Manrique wrote his Stanzas to the Death of His Father. This elegy clearly conveys a universal feeling about mortality. For thousands of years, we Jews have been expressing similar ideas at Yamim Nora´im. Did Manrique hear his neighbors davvening Unetaneh Tofef? These tfilot may have inspired the first verses of his work: “Let from its dream the soul awaken/And reason mark with open eyes/the scene unfolding/How lightly life is taken/How cometh Death in steady guise…”
As from the beginning of Elul, our tradition invites us to “remember with our souls”. The poignant sound of the Shofar “fuels our reason and awakens us”, while calling for an assessment not only of our personal life, but also of society as a whole and the world around us, so that we can do something to improve it.
However, if the opening verses of this stanza are connected to Yamim Nora´im, the closing ones widely differ from our way of thinking. It is precisely because we do not believe that “every past hour was better than today” that this year’s main section of our Yearbook deals with a profound and long awaited change in our world –the position of women in society. We have included articles that explore the role of women in our religion, with a contemporary outlook. As usual, we are offering our readers the Masorti Conservative Jewish perspective on this question.
Community life in Amijai continues to surprise everyone and brings about deep admiration. A year and a half after the onset of this pandemic, our congregation has not only overcome uncertainty and managed to adapt to the new normal, but it has continuously raised the standards at each religious service and tzedakah program, at each and every event, activity or festival. You are all invited to read, in the Community Life section of this Yearbook, about all the plans and projects to help and support so many people, to offer education and, above all, to celebrate Life in community.
Under the spiritual guidance of our Rab Ale, we are proud to share these Yamim Nora´im in an open and free fashion, with very high technical and human quality, thereby reaching every corner of our planet. We know that some families are sharing the High Holidays liturgy with their beloved ones who are thousands of miles away, for the first time in many years. This has been possible thanks to the commitment of so many of you, who joined the Minyan Campaign, an endeavor based on our firm belief that we are all necessary and that each person counts. We are once again honored to count with our renowned regular contributors —Dr. Marcos Aguinis, Ms. Galit Ronen, the ambassador of the State of Israel in Argentina; and writer Paula Margules, among many others. Our huge gratitude goes to all of them.
On this new anniversary of the Creation of Man and Woman, may the sounds of the Shofar awaken our souls, so that we can self-evaluate our actions, with true Teshuvah. May we be able to fuel our reason, use our ability to think and make a meaningful balance of our soul. May we all manage to understand, however, that not every past hour was better than today and that it is our task, both on a personal and community level, to transform the tiny amount of reality that we have at hand in order to build a more beautiful and fair world.
